The trio was founded in 1999 by three talented musicians, violinist Min-Jeong Koh, violist Rebecca Young, and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan. The ensemble has since become one of the most sought-after chamber music groups in the world, known for their impeccable technique, musicality, and passion for their craft. The founding members of the Cummings String Trio are all accomplished musicians in their own right. Min-Jeong Koh is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras around the world. Rebecca Young is the principal violist of the New York Philharmonic and has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras. Raman Ramakrishnan is a founding member of the Daedalus Quartet and has performed with many other chamber music groups. The Cummings String Trio has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also been featured at numerous music festivals, including the Marlboro Music Festival, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and the Seattle Chamber Music Festival. One of the highlights of the Cummings String Trio's career was their performance of Beethoven's complete string trios at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in 2013. The trio received critical acclaim for their interpretation of these masterpieces, with The New York Times praising their "exquisite playing" and "deeply felt interpretations." The Cummings String Trio has also been recognized for their recordings, which have received numerous awards and accolades. Their recording of the complete string trios of Beethoven was named one of the best classical recordings of 2013 by The New York Times, and their recording of the complete string trios of Mozart was awarded the Diapason d'Or by the French music magazine Diapason.
