Role:Conductor PerformerBrady R. Allred is a renowned conductor, choral clinician, and educator in the field of classical music. He was born on August 22, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a professional musician, and his mother was a music teacher. Allred started playing the piano at the age of five and began singing in choirs at the age of eight. Allred attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in choral education. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Allred continued his education at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles, where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral music. Allred's career as a conductor began in 1978 when he was appointed as the conductor of the Salt Lake Children's Choir. He held this position for 25 years and led the choir on numerous tours throughout the United States and Europe. In 1985, Allred founded the Utah Chamber Artists, a professional choir that has gained national recognition for its performances and recordings. Allred has also served as the conductor of the University of Utah Chamber Choir and the USC Chamber Singers. Allred has been a guest conductor and clinician for numerous choirs and music festivals throughout the United States and Europe. He has conducted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, among others. Allred has also served as a guest conductor for the Utah Symphony and the Salt Lake Symphony. Allred has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of classical music. In 1993, he was awarded the Utah Governor's Award for the Arts. In 2003, he received the Sterling Scholar Award for Music Education from the Deseret News. Allred has also been recognized by the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) with the Outstanding Choral Director Award and the Julius Herford Award for outstanding doctoral research in choral music. Allred's recordings with the Utah Chamber Artists have received critical acclaim and have been featured on national radio programs such as NPR's "Performance Today." The choir's recording of Morten Lauridsen's "Lux Aeterna" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2006. Allred is also an accomplished educator and has taught choral music at BYU, the University of Utah, and USC. He has served as the president of the Utah Music Educators Association and the Western Division of the ACDA. Allred has also authored articles and book chapters on choral music and has served as a guest lecturer at universities and music conferences throughout the United States. In addition to his work as a conductor and educator, Allred is also a composer and arranger of choral music.
