Nina Mankin was born on May 12, 1985, in Moscow, Russia. Her parents were both musicians, and they encouraged her to pursue music from a young age. Mankin began playing the piano when she was just four years old, and by the time she was six, she was already performing in public. Mankin's talent was quickly recognized, and she was accepted into the prestigious Moscow Conservatory when she was just ten years old. She studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in Russia, including Tatiana Zelikman and Sergei Dorensky. Mankin's talent continued to flourish, and she began to gain recognition outside of Russia. In 2001, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Paris, and in 2003, she won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Geneva. Mankin's success continued to grow, and she began to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. In 2005, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and in 2007, she performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She taught at the Moscow Conservatory for several years, and many of her students went on to become successful musicians in their own right. Mankin's career was tragically cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and teach, and she remained an inspiration to many in the music world. Mankin passed away on June 15, 2012, at the age of 27.
