Turkish Traditional music is a genre of music that has been passed down through generations in Turkey. It is a unique blend of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and European musical traditions. The composers of Turkish Traditional music have played a significant role in preserving and promoting this rich musical heritage. The birth of Turkish Traditional music can be traced back to the Ottoman Empire, which ruled over a vast territory that included modern-day Turkey, parts of Europe, and the Middle East. The Ottoman Empire was a melting pot of cultures, and its music reflected this diversity. The music of the Ottoman Empire was heavily influenced by the music of the Arab world, Persia, and Central Asia. The Ottoman Empire was also home to many talented musicians who composed and performed music for the royal court and the general public. These musicians were known as "mehter," and they played a variety of instruments, including drums, trumpets, and cymbals. The mehter music was characterized by its loud and rhythmic sound, which was used to inspire and motivate soldiers during battles. Over time, Turkish Traditional music evolved and became more refined. The composers of Turkish Traditional music began to incorporate elements of Western classical music into their compositions. This fusion of Eastern and Western musical traditions gave birth to a new genre of music that was uniquely Turkish. One of the most prominent composers of Turkish Traditional music was Ahmet Adnan Saygun. Saygun was born in 1907 in Izmir, Turkey. He was the son of a wealthy merchant who was also a music lover. Saygun's father encouraged him to pursue a career in music, and he began studying the piano and violin at a young age. Saygun's musical talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became one of the most promising young musicians in Turkey. He went on to study music in Paris, where he was exposed to the works of some of the greatest composers of the time, including Stravinsky and Debussy. Saygun returned to Turkey in the 1930s and began composing music that blended traditional Turkish music with Western classical music. His compositions were well-received by audiences and critics alike, and he quickly became one of the most respected composers in Turkey. One of Saygun's most famous works is his "Yunus Emre Oratorio," which was composed in 1946. The oratorio is based on the life and teachings of the 13th-century Turkish poet Yunus Emre. The work is considered a masterpiece of Turkish Traditional music and has been performed by orchestras around the world. Another prominent composer of Turkish Traditional music was Necil Kazim Akses. Akses was born in 1908 in Istanbul, Turkey. He began studying music at a young age and went on to study at the Istanbul Conservatory. Akses was heavily influenced by the music of the Ottoman Empire and incorporated many traditional Turkish musical elements into his compositions. He also studied Western classical music and was particularly interested in the works of Bach and Beethoven. Akses' most famous work is his "Anatolian Suite," which was composed in 1948. The suite is a collection of five pieces that are based on traditional Turkish folk songs. The work is considered a masterpiece of Turkish Traditional music and has been performed by orchestras around the world. In addition to Saygun and Akses, there were many other talented composers of Turkish Traditional music.
