Diamanda La Berge Dramm is a Dutch-American violinist and composer who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in 1991 in San Francisco, California, Dramm grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her mother, Monica Germino, is a violinist and her father, Frank van der Weij, is a sound engineer. Dramm began playing the violin at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and later at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands. During her studies, she was mentored by renowned violinists such as Vera Beths and Shmuel Ashkenasi. Dramm's career as a professional musician began in 2013 when she won the Dutch Classical Talent Award, a prestigious competition for young classical musicians. This award helped to launch her career and led to numerous performances throughout the Netherlands and Europe. One of Dramm's most notable performances was her solo debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2015. She performed a program of contemporary works by composers such as Louis Andriessen and John Zorn, showcasing her virtuosic playing and innovative approach to classical music. In addition to her solo performances, Dramm is also a member of several ensembles, including the Asko|Schönberg ensemble and the Nieuw Amsterdams Peil ensemble. She has collaborated with a wide range of composers and musicians, including Michael Gordon, Bryce Dessner, and David Lang. Dramm is also a composer in her own right, and her works have been performed by ensembles such as the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Kronos Quartet. Her compositions often incorporate elements of improvisation and experimentation, reflecting her interest in pushing the boundaries of classical music. In 2019, Dramm released her debut album, "Bow to String," which features her own compositions as well as works by other contemporary composers. The album received critical acclaim and further established Dramm as a rising star in the classical music world. Throughout her career, Dramm has received numerous awards and accolades for her performances and compositions. In addition to the Dutch Classical Talent Award, she has been awarded the Kersjes Prize for young musicians and the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award.
