Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 30 years. The ensemble is based in Dresden, Germany, and is made up of some of the most talented musicians in the country. The founding of Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra can be traced back to 1989, when a group of musicians from the Saxon State Orchestra decided to form a chamber ensemble. The group was initially made up of 11 musicians, all of whom were members of the Saxon State Orchestra. The ensemble was created with the aim of exploring the rich repertoire of wind music, and to showcase the unique sound and versatility of wind instruments. The founding members of the ensemble were all highly skilled musicians, and many of them had already established themselves as soloists in their own right. The ensemble was led by the renowned oboist, Thomas Hecker, who had been a member of the Saxon State Orchestra since 1979. Hecker was joined by other talented musicians, including flutist, Uwe Grodd, clarinetist, Andreas Ottensamer, and bassoonist, Stefan Schweigert. From the very beginning, Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra was committed to excellence in performance. The ensemble spent countless hours rehearsing and perfecting their repertoire, and their hard work paid off. Their first performance was a huge success, and they quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to captivate audiences with their performances. Over the years, Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists in the classical music world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1995. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the festival's "Mozart Matinees" series, and their performance was met with critical acclaim. The ensemble's performance of Mozart's "Gran Partita" was described as "exquisite" and "sublime," and it cemented their reputation as one of the finest wind ensembles in the world. In addition to their performances, Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1997, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for their recording of Mozart's "Gran Partita." The ensemble has also been praised for their recordings of works by other composers, including Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvořák. Today, Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra continues to be one of the most respected and admired wind ensembles in the world. The ensemble has expanded over the years, and now includes 16 members, all of whom are highly skilled musicians. The ensemble's repertoire has also expanded, and they now perform works from a wide range of composers, including contemporary composers such as John Adams and Steve Reich. Despite their success, Winds of the Saxon State Orchestra remains committed to their original mission of exploring the rich repertoire of wind music. The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with wind instruments, and their performances are a testament to the unique sound and versatility of these instruments.
