Role:ComposerBirth:1942Period:ContemporaryGenre:ChamberKeyboardRobert Delanoff was a classical music composer born on May 12, 1925, in Vienna, Austria. He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Delanoff showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. At the age of six, Delanoff began taking formal music lessons. He studied piano, violin, and composition. He showed a natural talent for composition and began writing his own music at a young age. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. In 1938, when Delanoff was thirteen years old, his family fled Austria to escape the Nazi regime. They settled in the United States and Delanoff continued his music studies. He attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied composition with Vincent Persichetti and piano with Rosina Lhévinne. After graduating from Juilliard, Delanoff began his career as a composer. He wrote music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. His music was influenced by the classical composers of the past, but he also incorporated modern techniques and sounds into his compositions. One of Delanoff's early works was his Piano Concerto, which he wrote in 1950. The concerto was well-received and helped establish Delanoff as a composer to watch. He continued to write music for piano throughout his career, including several sonatas and a set of variations on a theme by Mozart. In addition to his piano music, Delanoff wrote several works for orchestra. One of his most famous pieces is his Symphony No. 1, which he wrote in 1955. The symphony is a four-movement work that showcases Delanoff's skill as a composer. It has been performed by orchestras around the world and is considered one of his greatest works. Delanoff also wrote several chamber works, including string quartets, sonatas for various instruments, and a wind quintet. His chamber music is known for its intricate melodies and complex harmonies. Throughout his career, Delanoff received numerous awards and honors for his music. He was a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts grant, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters award. He was also a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Delanoff continued to compose music until his death in 1991. His music has been performed by some of the world's greatest musicians and orchestras. He is remembered as a talented composer who blended classical traditions with modern techniques to create a unique and beautiful sound.More....
