The Rubens Quartet has gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic and exciting chamber music ensembles in Europe. The quartet has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and North America, and has received critical acclaim for its performances and recordings. The quartet's founding members, Tali Goldberg and Sarah Kapustin, met while studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a quartet. They were soon joined by Roeland Jagers and Joachim Eijlander, and the Rubens Quartet was born. The quartet takes its name from the famous Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens, who was born in Antwerp, Belgium, not far from the quartet's home in Amsterdam. The quartet chose the name Rubens because they felt that it reflected their commitment to excellence and their passion for beauty and creativity. Since its founding, the Rubens Quartet has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The quartet has also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Menahem Pressler and cellist Pieter Wispelwey. One of the highlights of the Rubens Quartet's career was their performance of the complete Beethoven string quartets at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The quartet performed all 16 of Beethoven's string quartets over the course of eight concerts, and the performances were hailed as a triumph of musicianship and artistry. The Rubens Quartet has also been recognized for its recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. The quartet's recording of the complete string quartets of Mendelssohn was awarded the prestigious Edison Award, and their recording of the complete string quartets of Shostakovich was nominated for a Grammy Award. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Rubens Quartet is committed to education and outreach. The quartet regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and they have established a chamber music festival in the Netherlands that brings together young musicians from around the world.
