The Artea Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2013. The quartet is composed of four members: violinists Anna Tifu and Mihaela Martin, violist Vladimir Mendelssohn, and cellist Sebastian Bohren. The ensemble has gained recognition for their dynamic performances and unique interpretations of classical music. Anna Tifu, the first violinist of the Artea Quartet, was born in Cagliari, Italy in 1986. She began playing the violin at the age of five and went on to study at the Conservatory of Cagliari and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Tifu has won numerous awards, including first prize at the International Violin Competition “Andrea Postacchini” in Fermo, Italy, and the “Prix Yves Paternot” at the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland. Mihaela Martin, the second violinist of the Artea Quartet, was born in Romania in 1959. She began playing the violin at the age of five and went on to study at the George Enescu Music School in Bucharest and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Martin has won numerous awards, including first prize at the International Violin Competition “Niccolò Paganini” in Genoa, Italy, and the “Prix Jacques Thibaud” at the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris, France. Vladimir Mendelssohn, the violist of the Artea Quartet, was born in Moscow, Russia in 1979. He began playing the viola at the age of six and went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Mendelssohn has won numerous awards, including first prize at the International Viola Competition “William Primrose” in Chicago, USA, and the “Prix Lionel Tertis” at the Isle of Man International Competition. Sebastian Bohren, the cellist of the Artea Quartet, was born in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1987. He began playing the cello at the age of five and went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Zurich, Switzerland. Bohren has won numerous awards, including first prize at the International Cello Competition “Antonio Janigro” in Zagreb, Croatia, and the “Prix Nicati” at the Swiss Ambassador’s Award in London, UK. The Artea Quartet was founded in 2013 by Anna Tifu and Sebastian Bohren. The quartet’s name is derived from the Italian word “arte,” which means “art.” The ensemble’s mission is to bring classical music to a wider audience and to showcase the beauty and complexity of the genre. Since its founding, the Artea Quartet has performed at numerous prestigious venues and festivals around the world. In 2014, the quartet made their debut at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, where they performed works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. The following year, the quartet performed at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, where they received critical acclaim for their performance of Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” quartet. In 2016, the Artea Quartet released their debut album, “Mozart: The String Quartets,” which received widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. The album features the quartet’s interpretations of Mozart’s six string quartets, which are considered some of the composer’s most important works. In 2018, the Artea Quartet was awarded the prestigious Swiss Ambassador’s Award, which recognizes outstanding Swiss musicians who have made significant contributions to the international music scene.
