Orest Alexandrovich Yevlakhov was a Russian composer who was born on August 22, 1922, in the city of Moscow. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Alexander Yevlakhov, was a well-known composer and conductor. Orest's mother, Maria Yevlakhova, was a pianist and music teacher. From a young age, Orest was exposed to music and began to show a talent for it. Orest began his formal music education at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied composition under the tutelage of Nikolai Myaskovsky. He graduated from the conservatory in 1947 and went on to become a professor of composition at the same institution. He remained a professor at the Moscow Conservatory until his retirement in 1992. Throughout his career, Yevlakhov composed a wide range of works, including symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and vocal music. His music was characterized by its lyricism, emotional depth, and technical mastery. He was particularly known for his use of Russian folk melodies and his incorporation of elements of Russian culture into his compositions. One of Yevlakhov's most famous works is his Symphony No. 2, which he composed in 1957. The symphony is a powerful and emotional work that reflects the turbulent political climate of the time. It is characterized by its use of dissonance and its dramatic shifts in mood and tempo.
