Ann Yi is a classical pianist and composer who has gained recognition for her unique style and interpretation of classical music. Born in South Korea, Yi began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Her parents recognized her potential and enrolled her in the Yewon School, a prestigious music school in Seoul, where she received rigorous training in classical piano. Yi's talent continued to flourish, and she went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. During her time at Juilliard, Yi studied under renowned pianists such as Yoheved Kaplinsky and Jerome Lowenthal, who helped shape her unique style and approach to classical music. After completing her studies, Yi began performing extensively throughout the United States and Europe, showcasing her virtuosic technique and musical sensitivity. She has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Yi's most notable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 2012, where she performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. The New York Times praised her performance, stating that "Ms. Yi's playing was marked by a rare combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth, making for a truly unforgettable concert experience." Yi has also been recognized for her work as a composer, with several of her original compositions receiving critical acclaim. Her piece "Reflections," which was inspired by the works of Claude Debussy, was premiered at the 2015 Aspen Music Festival and has since been performed by numerous orchestras and ensembles around the world. In addition to her performances and compositions, Yi is also a dedicated educator, serving as a faculty member at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. She is known for her passionate and engaging teaching style, and has mentored numerous young pianists who have gone on to successful careers in classical music. Throughout her career, Yi has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to classical music. In 2014, she was named a Steinway Artist, joining a prestigious group of pianists who are recognized for their exceptional talent and dedication to the instrument. She has also been awarded the Juilliard School's William Petschek Piano Debut Award and the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship, among others.
