He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Bartolucci began his musical education at a young age, studying piano, organ, and composition. He later attended the Conservatory of Florence, where he studied composition with Ildebrando Pizzetti and conducting with Carlo Maria Giulini. Bartolucci's career as a composer began in the 1940s, when he began writing music for the Catholic Church. He was appointed as the director of the Sistine Chapel Choir in 1956, a position he held for over 20 years. During his tenure, he composed numerous works for the choir, including masses, motets, and hymns. One of Bartolucci's most famous works is his Missa Jubilate Deo, which was written in 1966 for the closing of the Second Vatican Council. The mass is known for its simplicity and accessibility, and it has become a staple of Catholic liturgical music.
