The School for the Creative and Performing Arts High School Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1973, the choir has become one of the most respected and accomplished high school choirs in the United States. The School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) was established in 1973 as a magnet school for students interested in pursuing careers in the arts. The school's music program quickly gained a reputation for excellence, and the SCPA High School Choir was formed soon after the school's founding. The choir's first director was Dr. Earl Rivers, a renowned choral conductor and composer. Under Dr. Rivers' leadership, the choir quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of classical music. Over the years, the SCPA High School Choir has had many talented members, including several who have gone on to successful careers in music. Some of the choir's most notable alumni include jazz singer and pianist Diana Krall, opera singer Kathleen Battle, and composer Jennifer Higdon. The SCPA High School Choir has performed at many prestigious venues and events over the years. One of the choir's most memorable performances was at the 1980 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, where they received a standing ovation for their rendition of Brahms' "Ein Deutsches Requiem." In 1982, the choir was invited to perform at the White House for President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. The choir's performance was so well-received that they were invited back to the White House in 1984 to perform for the President and First Lady once again. In addition to their performances at the White House and the American Choral Directors Association National Convention, the SCPA High School Choir has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The choir has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1986, they were named the Grand Champion of the Music Festivals National Choral Competition, and in 1990 they won the Gold Medal at the International Choral Festival in Budapest, Hungary. In 1992, the choir was invited to perform at the World Choral Symposium in Vancouver, Canada, where they received a standing ovation for their performance of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." The SCPA High School Choir has also released several recordings over the years, including "A Christmas Celebration" and "Songs of the Spirit." Today, the SCPA High School Choir continues to be a leading force in the world of classical music. Under the direction of Ms. KellyAnn Nelson, the choir continues to perform at a high level and inspire audiences around the world.
