Artist Info
Carolino Carreira was born on May 12, 1985, in Lisbon, Portugal. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Carreira showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Carreira's parents recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist Maria João Pires and quickly became one of her most promising students. Under her guidance, Carreira developed a deep understanding of classical music and honed his skills as a pianist. In 2003, Carreira won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Porto, Portugal. This was a major milestone in his career and helped to establish him as a rising star in the classical music world. He went on to win several other awards and competitions, including the Maria João Pires Prize in 2005 and the Young Musicians Prize in 2007. Carreira's talent as a pianist was recognized by many of the world's leading orchestras and conductors. He performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic, among others. He also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of his time, including Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Simon Rattle. One of Carreira's most memorable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. He played a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "virtuosic technique and sensitive musicality," and hailed him as "one of the most exciting young pianists of his generation." Carreira was also known for his commitment to contemporary music. He premiered several works by Portuguese composers, including Nuno Côrte-Real and Eurico Carrapatoso. He was particularly interested in exploring the intersection between classical and electronic music, and collaborated with several electronic musicians to create innovative new works. Despite his success, Carreira remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to study with Maria João Pires throughout his career, and often spoke of the importance of maintaining a deep connection to the music he played. He was also passionate about music education and worked with young musicians to help them develop their skills and love of music. Tragically, Carreira's life was cut short when he died in a car accident in 2015 at the age of 30. His death was a shock to the classical music world, and many mourned the loss of such a talented and promising young artist. However, his legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear him play.More....
