He was born into a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional musicians who played in the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. From a young age, Tantzov showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Tantzov began his musical training at the age of six, and he started with the piano. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument, and his parents decided to enroll him in the Moscow Conservatory. At the conservatory, Tantzov studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in Russia, including Vladimir Tropp and Lev Naumov. Tantzov's talent and dedication to his craft quickly became apparent, and he began to win awards and accolades for his performances. In 1992, he won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Paris, and in 1994, he won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Tokyo. Tantzov's career as a concert pianist took off in the mid-1990s, and he began to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1996, and he quickly became known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to connect with audiences.
