Laura Metcalf is a renowned cellist and chamber musician who has made a name for herself in the classical music world. Born in 1983 in New York City, Metcalf grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her mother was a pianist and her father was a composer, so it was only natural that she would develop a love for music. Metcalf began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a talent for the instrument. She studied with renowned cellists such as Timothy Eddy and Joel Krosnick, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. Throughout her career, Metcalf has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the world. She has been a member of the acclaimed string quartet Sybarite5 since 2008, and has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, among others. One of the highlights of Metcalf's career was her performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards, where she played with the Silk Road Ensemble, a group founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma.
