Role:EnsembleGenre:OrchestralCamerata Zürich is a classical music ensemble based in Zurich, Switzerland. The ensemble was founded in 1981 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The founding members included violinists Daniel Dodds and Sebastian Hamann, violist Thomas Grossenbacher, cellist Thomas Demenga, and pianist Andreas Haefliger. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, and they soon began to attract attention from audiences and critics alike. Over the years, the ensemble has undergone several changes in membership, but their commitment to excellence and their passion for chamber music has remained constant. One of the highlights of Camerata Zürich's early career was their performance at the Lucerne Festival in 1983. The ensemble's performance of Mozart's Piano Quartet in G minor was met with enthusiastic applause, and the group was invited back to the festival the following year. In 1985, Camerata Zürich released their first album, featuring works by Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms. The album was well-received by critics, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading chamber music groups in Switzerland. Over the years, Camerata Zürich has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Joshua Bell. These collaborations have resulted in some of the ensemble's most memorable performances, including their 2001 performance of Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 1 with Argerich. In addition to their collaborations with other musicians, Camerata Zürich has also commissioned and premiered many new works by contemporary composers. One of the most notable of these works is Heinz Holliger's "Zwei Liszt-Transkriptionen," which the ensemble premiered in 1992. Camerata Zürich has received many awards and accolades over the years, including the Swiss Music Prize in 2012. The ensemble has also been praised for their recordings, which have won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Gramophone Award. Despite their many achievements, Camerata Zürich remains committed to their mission of bringing the beauty and power of chamber music to audiences around the world. The ensemble continues to perform regularly, both in Switzerland and abroad, and they remain one of the most respected and beloved chamber music groups in the world.More....
