He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began to take lessons with local teachers. By the time he was in high school, he had already won several competitions and was recognized as a rising star in the music world. In 1998, Wang moved to the United States to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. After graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2002, Wang joined the New York Philharmonic as the principal oboist. Wang has also been recognized for his contributions to the music world. In 2006, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding instrumentalists who show exceptional talent and promise for the future.
