Mike Landau is a renowned American guitarist, composer, and producer who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on December 1, 1958, in Los Angeles, California, Landau grew up in a family of musicians. His father, a jazz pianist, and his mother, a singer, exposed him to music at a young age, and he began playing the guitar when he was just 11 years old. Landau's early influences included Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck, and he quickly developed a reputation as a prodigious talent. By the time he was a teenager, he was already playing in local bands and attracting attention from industry insiders. In 1976, he was invited to join the band of legendary jazz fusion drummer Billy Cobham, and he spent the next few years touring and recording with Cobham and other jazz luminaries. In the early 1980s, Landau began to focus more on studio work, and he quickly became one of the most in-demand session guitarists in Los Angeles. He played on countless albums and singles, working with artists as diverse as Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, and Joni Mitchell. His playing was characterized by its technical virtuosity, its emotional depth, and its ability to serve the song rather than the ego of the player. In addition to his session work, Landau also began to release his own albums in the 1980s. His debut, "Tales from the Bulge," was released in 1989 and showcased his eclectic style, which blended elements of rock, jazz, and classical music. The album received critical acclaim and established Landau as a solo artist in his own right. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Landau continued to work as a session musician and solo artist, releasing a string of albums that showcased his versatility and creativity. He also became a sought-after producer, working with artists such as Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and Rod Stewart. One of Landau's most notable achievements came in 1991, when he was invited to join the band of legendary jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock. Landau spent several years touring and recording with Hancock, and he was a key contributor to the Grammy-winning album "A Tribute to Miles." In addition to his work with Hancock, Landau has also collaborated with a wide range of other artists, including James Taylor, Seal, and Steve Gadd. He has also performed on numerous film and television soundtracks, including "The Lion King," "Toy Story," and "The Simpsons." Throughout his career, Landau has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 1992, he was named "Guitarist of the Year" by Guitar Player magazine, and he has been nominated for several Grammy Awards. He has also been recognized for his work as a producer, winning a Grammy for his work on Michael Jackson's "Thriller 25" album. Despite his many accomplishments, Landau remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. His influence can be heard in the playing of countless other musicians, and his legacy as a musician and artist is secure.More....
