London Select Choir is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by conductor and composer Ben Palmer. The choir is made up of professional singers who are based in London and who have a passion for choral music. The ensemble has gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and has won several awards for its work. Ben Palmer founded London Select Choir with the aim of creating a group of singers who could perform a wide range of choral music to a high standard. The choir's members are all experienced singers who have performed with some of the UK's leading choral ensembles. The choir's repertoire includes works from the Renaissance to the present day, and the ensemble is known for its innovative programming and imaginative interpretations of classic works. One of the highlights of London Select Choir's early years was its performance of Handel's Messiah at St Martin-in-the-Fields in 2011. The choir received critical acclaim for its performance, with reviewers praising the ensemble's precision and clarity of sound. The choir has since performed Messiah on several occasions, including a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016. London Select Choir has also gained a reputation for its performances of contemporary choral music. In 2013, the choir performed the world premiere of a new work by composer Gabriel Jackson at St John's Smith Square. The piece, entitled The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, was commissioned by the choir and received widespread critical acclaim. The choir has since performed several other works by Jackson, including his Requiem and his setting of the Magnificat. In addition to its performances in London, London Select Choir has also toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe. The choir has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonie and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The choir has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the choir's most memorable performances was its appearance at the BBC Proms in 2015. The choir performed a programme of choral works by British composers, including Vaughan Williams, Britten and Tippett. The performance received widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the choir's "rich and resonant sound" and its "impeccable diction and phrasing".
