NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Wrocław, Poland. The orchestra was founded in 2004 by conductor and violinist Ernst Kovacic and is named after the patron saint of Wrocław, Saint Leopold. The ensemble is known for its innovative programming and performances of both classical and contemporary music. The orchestra's main members include a core group of around 20 musicians, many of whom are also members of the Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble also collaborates with guest soloists and conductors from around the world. One of the highlights of the orchestra's early years was its performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven's string quartets in 2006. The ensemble received critical acclaim for its interpretation of these works, which are considered some of the most challenging and important in the classical music canon. In 2008, the orchestra won the prestigious Paszport Polityki award, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the arts and culture in Poland. The award was given in recognition of the ensemble's innovative programming and its commitment to promoting contemporary music. Since then, the orchestra has continued to perform a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque and Classical works to contemporary compositions. In 2011, the ensemble performed the world premiere of a new work by Polish composer Paweł Szymański, which was commissioned by the orchestra. In addition to its regular concert series in Wrocław, the orchestra has also performed at major music festivals throughout Europe, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. The ensemble has also collaborated with leading soloists and conductors, including violinist Isabelle Faust and conductor John Axelrod. One of the orchestra's most notable collaborations was with composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki, who conducted the ensemble in a performance of his own works in 2013. The concert was part of a larger celebration of Penderecki's 80th birthday, and was attended by the composer himself. In recent years, the orchestra has also focused on recording and releasing its performances on CD and digital platforms. The ensemble's recordings have received critical acclaim and have been nominated for several awards, including the International Classical Music Awards and the Fryderyk Awards, which are the most prestigious music awards in Poland. Overall, NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra has established itself as one of the leading classical music ensembles in Poland and Europe. The ensemble's commitment to innovative programming and its dedication to promoting contemporary music have made it a favorite among audiences and critics alike.More....
