Role:EnsembleGenre:ChoralOperaSymphonyGruppo Vocale Cantemus is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1978 in Hungary. The group is known for its exceptional performances of choral music, and has gained a reputation as one of the most accomplished vocal ensembles in Europe. The founding members of Gruppo Vocale Cantemus were a group of music students who were studying at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. They were all passionate about choral music, and decided to form an ensemble that would allow them to perform together and share their love of this genre with others. The original members of the group were János Bali, János Dobra, László Fassang, László Heltay, László Kecskeméti, and László Norbert Nemes. Over the years, the group has undergone some changes in membership, but it has always maintained a high level of musical excellence. One of the highlights of Gruppo Vocale Cantemus's career was their performance at the 1982 International Choral Competition in Debrecen, Hungary. The group won first prize in the mixed choir category, and also received the special prize for the best performance of a contemporary work. This was a significant achievement for the ensemble, and helped to establish their reputation as a world-class choral group. Since then, Gruppo Vocale Cantemus has gone on to perform at many prestigious venues and events around the world. They have appeared at the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the BBC Proms, among others. They have also collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the group's most notable performances was their rendition of György Ligeti's "Lux Aeterna" at the 2001 Salzburg Festival. This piece is known for its complex harmonies and challenging vocal techniques, and Gruppo Vocale Cantemus's performance was widely praised for its precision and clarity. In addition to their live performances, Gruppo Vocale Cantemus has also released several recordings over the years. Their discography includes works by Bach, Mozart, and Brahms, as well as contemporary composers such as Ligeti and Péter Eötvös. Throughout their career, Gruppo Vocale Cantemus has remained committed to promoting choral music and supporting young musicians. They have organized workshops and masterclasses for aspiring singers, and have also commissioned new works from emerging composers. Today, the group is led by conductor Dénes Szabó, who has been with the ensemble since 1991. Under his leadership, Gruppo Vocale Cantemus continues to push the boundaries of choral music and inspire audiences around the world.More....
