Vladimir De Kanel was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1950, in Moscow, Russia. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known conductor in Russia. Vladimir's mother was also a pianist, and she played a significant role in his early musical education. Vladimir showed an interest in music from a very young age, and he began playing the piano when he was just four years old. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Vladimir's father was his first teacher, and he taught him the basics of music theory and piano technique. In 1965, Vladimir was accepted into the Moscow Conservatory, one of the most prestigious music schools in Russia. He studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers in the country, including Lev Naumov and Yakov Flier. Vladimir's talent and dedication to his craft were evident from the start, and he quickly became one of the top students in his class. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory in 1970, Vladimir began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile pianists in Russia, and he was soon performing in some of the country's most prestigious concert halls. In 1974, Vladimir won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. This was a major turning point in his career, and it helped to establish him as a world-class pianist. He went on to win numerous other awards and accolades throughout his career, including the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, one of the highest honors in Russia. Vladimir's repertoire was vast and varied, and he was equally at home playing the works of classical composers like Bach and Beethoven as he was playing contemporary pieces by living composers. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Russian composers like Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev, and he was widely regarded as one of the foremost interpreters of their music. Throughout his career, Vladimir performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Claudio Abbado. One of the highlights of Vladimir's career was his performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. He was chosen to perform at the opening ceremony, and his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 was widely praised as one of the highlights of the ceremony. Vladimir continued to perform and record throughout his career, and he released numerous albums of solo piano music and chamber music. He was also a dedicated teacher, and he taught at the Moscow Conservatory for many years. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as pianists and musicians. Sadly, Vladimir passed away on June 15, 2015, at the age of 65. His death was a great loss to the world of classical music, and he was mourned by fans and colleagues around the world.
