Franciscus Bossinensis was a composer and lutenist who lived in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was born in the Italian city of Bologna around 1465. He was a contemporary of other famous composers of the time, such as Josquin des Prez and Heinrich Isaac. Bossinensis was primarily known for his work as a lutenist, and he was considered one of the most skilled players of his time. He was also a composer, and his surviving works include a collection of lute music entitled "Liber de arte contrapuncti," which was published in Venice in 1509. The "Liber de arte contrapuncti" is a collection of 120 pieces for solo lute, and it is considered one of the most important collections of lute music from the Renaissance period. The pieces are arranged in order of difficulty, and they range from simple dances to complex contrapuntal works. One of the highlights of the collection is the "Fantasia," which is a complex and virtuosic piece that showcases Bossinensis' skill as a composer and lutenist. Another notable piece from the collection is the "Ricercar," which is a type of instrumental composition that was popular during the Renaissance period.
