The duo has gained international recognition for their virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. Matteo Mela was born in Savona, Italy in 1972. He began playing guitar at the age of eight and went on to study at the Conservatory of Music in Alessandria, Italy. He later studied with renowned guitarists Oscar Ghiglia and Alvaro Pierri at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Mela has won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious GFA International Guitar Competition in 1997. Lorenzo Micheli was born in Milan, Italy in 1975. He began playing guitar at the age of six and went on to study at the Conservatory of Music in Milan. He later studied with Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Micheli has also won numerous awards and competitions, including the GFA International Guitar Competition in 1999. Mela and Micheli first met in 1994 while studying with Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Chigiana. They began playing together and quickly realized their shared passion for classical guitar music. In 1995, they formed Duo Tedesco, taking their name from the Italian word for "German" in honor of the great German composers of classical guitar music. Duo Tedesco quickly gained recognition for their virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. They have performed in major concert halls and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo International Guitar Festival. They have also collaborated with renowned musicians such as flutist Sir James Galway and violinist Gidon Kremer. In addition to their performances, Duo Tedesco has also recorded several albums, including "Music for Two Guitars" and "Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin."
