Artist Info
Role:ConductorPeriod:BaroqueRomanticGenre:ChamberConcertoMargaret Batjer is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact on the world of music. Born in 1959 in Los Angeles, California, Batjer grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Ralph Batjer, was a violinist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and her mother, Virginia Majewski, was a violist with the same orchestra. Growing up in such a musical environment, it was no surprise that Batjer developed a love for music at a young age. Batjer began playing the violin at the age of three, and by the time she was six, she was already performing in public. She studied with some of the most renowned violin teachers in the world, including Dorothy DeLay, Ivan Galamian, and Nathan Milstein. Her talent was evident from a young age, and she quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy. In 1974, Batjer joined the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as its youngest member. She quickly rose through the ranks and became the orchestra's concertmaster in 1981. She held this position for 15 years, during which time she became known for her virtuosic playing and her ability to lead the orchestra with precision and grace. Batjer's career as a soloist began in the early 1980s, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented violinists of her generation. She has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors in the world, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and Zubin Mehta. One of the highlights of Batjer's career was her performance of Bach's complete solo violin works at the Aspen Music Festival in 1995. This was a monumental achievement, as the works are considered some of the most challenging pieces in the violin repertoire. Batjer's performance was widely praised, and it cemented her reputation as one of the greatest violinists of her generation. Batjer has also been recognized for her work as a chamber musician. She has been a member of the faculty at the Colburn School in Los Angeles since 1989, where she has taught violin and chamber music. She has also been a member of the faculty at the Aspen Music Festival since 1994. In addition, she is a founding member of the Da Camera Society, a Los Angeles-based organization that promotes chamber music. Batjer has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1994, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. In 2004, she was awarded the Richard D. Colburn Award for Teaching Excellence at the Colburn School. In 2013, she was awarded the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's Margaret Armstrong Award for Artistic Excellence, which is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the orchestra. Batjer's recordings have also received critical acclaim. She has recorded the complete works of Bach for solo violin, as well as works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. Her recordings have been praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to her work as a musician, Batjer is also a philanthropist. She is a member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and she has been involved with numerous other charitable organizations throughout her career.More....
