Polnische Kammerphilharmonie Sopot is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1981 in Sopot, Poland. The ensemble was established by a group of young musicians who were passionate about classical music and wanted to create a platform where they could showcase their talents and share their love for music with others. The founding members of the ensemble included Marek Moś, who served as the conductor and artistic director, and his brother Jacek Moś, who played the violin. Over the years, the ensemble has grown in size and now includes over 30 musicians who play a variety of instruments, including strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. One of the highlights of the ensemble's early years was their performance at the 1982 International Festival of Young Musicians in Bayreuth, Germany. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their performance and was invited to perform at several other festivals and concerts throughout Europe. In 1987, the ensemble changed its name to the Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Orchestra and began to focus on performing works by Polish composers, such as Chopin, Szymanowski, and Lutosławski. The ensemble also collaborated with several renowned soloists, including Krystian Zimerman, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Nigel Kennedy. In 1998, the ensemble changed its name again to the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra and began to focus on performing works by both Polish and international composers. The ensemble continued to collaborate with soloists and conductors from around the world, including Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky, and Sir Neville Marriner. One of the highlights of the ensemble's recent years was their performance at the 2016 BBC Proms in London. The ensemble performed a program of works by Polish composers, including Lutosławski's Concerto for Orchestra and Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1, with soloist Jennifer Pike. The performance received critical acclaim and was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The ensemble has also received several awards and accolades throughout its history. In 1993, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Prix de l'Académie du Disque Français for their recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with soloist Maria João Pires. The ensemble has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards for their recordings of works by Chopin, Lutosławski, and Penderecki. Today, the Polnische Kammerphilharmonie Sopot continues to perform and record works by both Polish and international composers. The ensemble is known for its dynamic and expressive performances, and its commitment to promoting classical music to audiences around the world.
