Ryan Streber is a contemporary classical music composer and audio engineer based in New York City. Born in 1981 in San Francisco, California, Streber grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. He later studied composition and piano performance at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. After completing his undergraduate studies, Streber moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. He enrolled in the Master of Music program in composition at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with renowned composers such as Richard Danielpour and Nils Vigeland. During this time, Streber also began working as a freelance audio engineer, recording and producing music for a variety of clients. Streber's early compositions were heavily influenced by the minimalist and post-minimalist styles of composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. His works often featured repetitive patterns and simple harmonic structures, but also incorporated elements of jazz and rock music. One of his earliest compositions, "Piano Piece No. 1," was written for solo piano and featured a driving, rhythmic ostinato that gradually built in intensity over the course of the piece. In 2007, Streber founded his own record label, New Focus Recordings, which specializes in contemporary classical music. Through this label, he has released several albums of his own compositions, as well as recordings of works by other contemporary composers. One of his most acclaimed albums, "Achilles Dreams of Ebbets Field," features a suite of compositions inspired by the mythology of ancient Greece and the history of baseball.
