United States of AmericaBirth:April 6, 1965 in Boston, MABlack Francis, also known as Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV, is an American musician and composer who is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the alternative rock band Pixies. Born on April 6, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts, Francis grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music at a young age. His father was a professor of English literature and his mother was a singer and pianist. Francis began playing guitar and writing songs in his teenage years, and in 1986, he formed Pixies with Joey Santiago, Kim Deal, and David Lovering. The band's unique blend of punk, surf rock, and pop influences quickly gained a following, and they released their debut album, "Surfer Rosa," in 1988. The album was critically acclaimed and is now considered a classic of the alternative rock genre. Over the next few years, Pixies released several more albums, including "Doolittle" and "Bossanova," and toured extensively. However, tensions within the band eventually led to their breakup in 1993. Francis then embarked on a solo career, releasing his first album, "Frank Black," in 1993. Throughout his solo career, Francis continued to experiment with different genres and styles, incorporating elements of country, folk, and even classical music into his work. He released several more albums, including "Teenager of the Year" and "Honeycomb," and collaborated with other musicians such as Tom Waits and PJ Harvey. In addition to his work as a musician, Francis has also composed music for film and television. He wrote the score for the 2006 film "The Groomsmen" and has contributed music to several TV shows, including "Californication" and "The Bridge." One of Francis's most notable works is his 2011 album "The Golem," which is a concept album based on the Jewish legend of the same name. The album features Francis's signature blend of rock and folk influences, as well as elements of classical music. The album was well-received by critics and is considered one of Francis's most ambitious and accomplished works. Overall, Black Francis's career as a musician and composer has been marked by a willingness to experiment with different genres and styles, as well as a commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in music. His work with Pixies helped to define the alternative rock genre, while his solo work has showcased his versatility and creativity as a composer. With a career spanning over three decades, Black Francis remains one of the most influential and innovative musicians of his generation.More....
