Wind began his formal music education at the Hamburg Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Hajo Wienroth. During his time at the university, Wind had the opportunity to study with some of the most renowned bassists in the world, including Ray Brown, Ron Carter, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. He quickly established himself as a highly sought-after bassist and began performing with some of the biggest names in jazz and classical music. Some of the notable musicians Wind has performed with include Benny Golson, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, and Bill Mays. One of the highlights of Wind's career was his performance at the 2002 Grammy Awards. He was invited to perform with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, which was nominated for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album. The group performed a medley of songs from their album, and Wind's virtuosic bass playing was a standout feature of the performance.
