Role:ComposerBirth:1910Death:2001Norbert Glanzberg was a French composer of classical music, born on July 23, 1910, in Vienna, Austria. He was the son of a Jewish family, and his father was a tailor. Glanzberg showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. He studied music at the Vienna Conservatory and later moved to Paris in 1931 to continue his studies. In Paris, Glanzberg became involved in the city's vibrant music scene and began composing music for films and cabarets. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer and worked with some of the most famous performers of the time, including Edith Piaf and Yves Montand. One of Glanzberg's most famous works is the song "Padam Padam," which he wrote for Edith Piaf in 1951. The song became an instant hit and is still considered one of Piaf's signature songs. Glanzberg also composed music for several films, including "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1956) and "The Roots of Heaven" (1958). In addition to his work in film and cabaret, Glanzberg also composed classical music. He wrote several symphonies, concertos, and chamber music pieces. One of his most famous classical works is the "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra," which was premiered in 1954 by the French violinist Ginette Neveu. Glanzberg's music is known for its lyrical melodies and emotional depth. He was influenced by the music of his time, including jazz and popular music, but also drew inspiration from classical composers such as Mozart and Beethoven. Despite his success as a composer, Glanzberg's life was not without challenges. He was forced to flee Paris during World War II due to his Jewish heritage and spent several years in hiding. After the war, he returned to Paris and continued his work as a composer. Glanzberg died on July 29, 2001, in Paris, at the age of 91. His legacy as a composer lives on through his music, which continues to be performed and enjoyed by audiences around the world.More....
