Role:EnsembleGenre:VocalSirinu is a classical music ensemble that specializes in early music, particularly from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The group was founded in 1984 by the husband and wife team of Theresa Caudle and Matthew Spring, both of whom are accomplished musicians in their own right. Theresa Caudle was born in London in 1957 and began playing the violin at a young age. She studied at the Royal College of Music and later at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where she specialized in early music. She has performed with a number of prestigious ensembles, including the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Baroque Soloists, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Matthew Spring was born in 1959 in Birmingham, England. He began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and later studied at the Royal College of Music. He has performed with a number of early music ensembles, including the Dufay Collective and the New London Consort. Together, Caudle and Spring founded Sirinu with the goal of exploring the rich repertoire of early music. The group takes its name from the Latin word for "nightingale," a bird known for its beautiful singing voice. Sirinu quickly gained a reputation for its innovative and engaging performances. The group's repertoire includes music from a wide range of composers, including Monteverdi, Purcell, and Vivaldi. They are particularly known for their performances of English music from the 16th and 17th centuries, including works by William Byrd and John Dowland. Over the years, Sirinu has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. They have also appeared at numerous festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival, the Bath Festival, and the Utrecht Early Music Festival. In addition to their live performances, Sirinu has also recorded extensively. Their recordings include a number of critically acclaimed albums, including "The English Nightingale," which features music by English composers from the 16th and 17th centuries, and "The Italian Ground," which explores the music of Italy in the 17th century. Sirinu has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1990, they were awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for their recording of music by William Byrd. They have also been nominated for several other awards, including the BBC Music Magazine Award and the International Classical Music Award. In addition to their performances and recordings, Sirinu is also committed to education and outreach. They regularly give workshops and masterclasses, and have worked with a number of schools and community groups to promote early music. Overall, Sirinu is a highly respected and influential ensemble in the world of early music. Their innovative and engaging performances, combined with their commitment to education and outreach, have helped to bring the rich repertoire of early music to a wider audience.More....
