He continued his studies at the University of Arizona, where he earned a Master of Music degree in guitar performance. One of Caballero's most notable achievements came in 2002, when he became the first guitarist to win the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg International Competition. The competition, which is open to musicians of all instruments, is one of the most prestigious classical music competitions in the world. Caballero's victory was a significant milestone for classical guitar, as it marked the first time a guitarist had won the competition in over 50 years. Since winning the Naumburg Competition, Caballero has continued to perform and record extensively, earning critical acclaim for his innovative interpretations of classical music.
