Matthias Liener is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born on January 15, 1985, in Vienna, Austria, Liener showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents, who were both musicians, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Liener's musical education began at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied piano under the tutelage of renowned pianist and pedagogue, Professor Franz Schmidt. He later went on to study at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Throughout his education, Liener demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication to his craft. He won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious International Piano Competition in Vienna, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, and the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Bonn. After completing his studies, Liener embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Liener's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2010. He received critical acclaim for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," with the New York Philharmonic. The New York Times praised his "virtuosic playing" and "sensitive interpretation" of the piece. In addition to his performances as a soloist, Liener is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Liener's recordings have also received critical acclaim. His recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas was praised by Gramophone magazine as "a benchmark recording" and was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording in 2012. In addition to his performing career, Liener is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the Vienna Conservatory, and has given masterclasses around the world. Liener's dedication to music has earned him numerous awards and honors. In 2014, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, First Class, for his contributions to the arts.
