He was born on August 31, 1967, in the city of Heerlen, Netherlands. From a young age, Steijns showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He quickly developed a passion for classical music and began taking lessons from renowned violinists in the Netherlands. As a teenager, Steijns continued to hone his skills as a violinist and began performing in local orchestras and ensembles. He also began studying piano and carillon, which would later become his primary instruments. In 1986, Steijns was accepted into the Maastricht Conservatory, where he studied violin, piano, and carillon. After graduating from the conservatory, Steijns began his professional career as a musician. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile performer, and he was soon in demand for concerts and performances throughout the Netherlands and Europe. In 1993, he was appointed as the official carillonneur of the city of Maastricht, a position he still holds today. One of the highlights of Steijns' career came in 1998, when he was invited to perform at the wedding of Prince Maurits of the Netherlands and Marilène van den Broek. Steijns played the carillon at the ceremony, which was broadcast live on television throughout the Netherlands. The performance was widely praised, and it helped to raise Steijns' profile as a musician. In addition to his work as a carillonneur, Steijns has also performed as a violinist and pianist with numerous orchestras and ensembles.
