Drew Poling is a classical music composer and pianist who has made a name for himself in the world of contemporary classical music. Born in 1989 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Poling showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He grew up in a musical family, with both his parents being professional musicians, and was exposed to a wide range of musical styles from an early age. Poling's talent for music was evident from a young age, and he began composing his own music when he was just eight years old. He continued to study music throughout his childhood and teenage years, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. After completing his undergraduate studies, Poling went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. During his time at Michigan, he studied with some of the most respected composers in the field, including Michael Daugherty and Bright Sheng. Poling's music is characterized by its emotional depth and complexity, and he draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including literature, art, and nature. His compositions often feature intricate harmonies and rhythms, and he is known for his ability to create music that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally engaging. One of Poling's most notable works is his piano concerto, which was premiered by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 2015. The concerto, which was written specifically for Poling to perform, is a virtuosic showcase for the piano, and has been praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his work as a composer, Poling is also an accomplished pianist, and has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He has been a featured soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Poling's music has been recognized with a number of awards and honors, including the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, the BMI Student Composer Award, and the Presser Foundation Award. He has also been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and the Aspen Music Festival and School. Despite his success as a composer and pianist, Poling remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push the boundaries of contemporary classical music, and is committed to creating music that is both innovative and accessible to audiences of all backgrounds.
