He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Klebe began playing the piano at a young age and showed a talent for music early on. He studied composition at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and later at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. Klebe's early works were influenced by the music of Arnold Schoenberg and the Second Viennese School. He was also influenced by the music of Igor Stravinsky and Paul Hindemith. Klebe's early compositions were characterized by their atonal and dissonant harmonies, but he later moved towards a more tonal style. Klebe's breakthrough came in 1953 with his opera "Die Räuber" (The Robbers), which was based on the play by Friedrich Schiller. The opera was a critical and commercial success and established Klebe as one of the leading composers of his generation. Klebe went on to compose several more operas, including "Jacobowsky und der Oberst" (Jacobowsky and the Colonel) and "Das Märchen von der schönen Lilie" (The Tale of the Beautiful Lily). In addition to his operas, Klebe composed a large number of orchestral works, chamber music, and vocal music. His orchestral works include several symphonies, concertos for various instruments, and a number of tone poems. Klebe's chamber music includes works for string quartet, piano trio, and wind quintet. His vocal music includes several song cycles and choral works. Klebe was known for his ability to write music that was both expressive and technically demanding. His music was often characterized by its complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and use of unconventional instrumental techniques. Klebe was also known for his use of literary and philosophical themes in his music. Klebe received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize. He was also a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and the Berlin Academy of Arts. Klebe continued to compose music until his death on October 5, 2009, in Detmold, Germany. His legacy as a composer continues to be celebrated by musicians and music lovers around the world.More....
