Maria Gortsievskaja was born on May 12, 1985, in Moscow, Russia. She was born into a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Maria was exposed to classical music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Maria's talent was quickly recognized, and she began studying at the Central Music School in Moscow at the age of six. She continued her studies at the Moscow Conservatory, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Throughout her career, Maria has won numerous awards and accolades for her performances. In 2004, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Rome, and in 2006, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Geneva. She has also been a finalist in several other prestigious competitions, including the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Van Cliburn Competition in Texas. Maria has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. One of Maria's most memorable performances was her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010. She performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The Guardian describing Maria's playing as "dazzling" and "virtuosic." In addition to her solo performances, Maria is also an avid chamber musician. She has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Joshua Bell. She is also a member of the Gortsievskaja Trio, which she formed with her brother, cellist Alexander Gortsievskaja, and violinist Dmitry Gortsievskaja. Maria is known for her passionate and expressive playing style, as well as her technical prowess. She is particularly admired for her interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. In addition to her performing career, Maria is also a dedicated teacher.
