His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Zanazzo showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Zanazzo's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied under some of the most prominent pianists of his time. He attended the Milan Conservatory, where he studied under Carlo Zecchi, a renowned pianist and conductor. Zanazzo's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. He made his debut performance at the age of 12, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor with the Milan Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Zanazzo was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. Zanazzo continued to perform and study throughout his teenage years, and by the time he was in his early twenties, he had established himself as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He won several prestigious awards, including the International Piano Competition in Geneva and the Busoni Prize in Italy. In 1950, Zanazzo made his debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Zanazzo quickly became a favorite among American audiences.
