Hans Gunnar Hagen was born on May 15, 1985, in Oslo, Norway. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Hagen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later started learning the violin and the cello, and by the time he was a teenager, he had become proficient in all three instruments. Hagen's talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the prestigious Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo at the age of 12. He studied there for several years, honing his skills and developing his musical style. During this time, he also began performing in public, playing in various concerts and recitals. In 2003, Hagen was awarded a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. This was a major turning point in his career, as he was able to study with some of the most renowned musicians in the world. He spent four years at Juilliard, studying under the tutelage of Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, and Emanuel Ax, among others. During his time at Juilliard, Hagen also began performing in major venues around the world. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2005, playing the Brahms Double Concerto with his father. This performance was widely acclaimed, and Hagen was praised for his technical skill and emotional depth. Over the next few years, Hagen continued to perform in major venues around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House. He also began recording his music, releasing several albums that showcased his virtuosity and versatility as a musician. In 2010, Hagen was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. This award recognized his exceptional talent and his potential for a long and successful career in music. In the years that followed, Hagen continued to perform and record, collaborating with some of the most renowned musicians in the world. He also began teaching, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of musicians. Today, Hagen is widely regarded as one of the most talented and accomplished musicians of his generation.
