Frode Fjellheim is a Norwegian composer, musician, and producer who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. He was born on August 27, 1959, in Norway, and grew up in a musical family. His father was a choir conductor, and his mother was a pianist, which exposed him to music at an early age. Fjellheim started playing the piano when he was six years old and later learned to play the guitar, bass, and percussion. He studied music at the University of Tromsø, where he earned a degree in musicology. During his studies, he became interested in the traditional music of the Sami people, an indigenous group in Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Fjellheim's interest in Sami music led him to collaborate with Sami musicians and incorporate their traditional music into his compositions. He became known for his unique blend of Sami music, jazz, and classical music, which he called "Nordic sound." One of Fjellheim's most famous works is the song "Eatnemen Vuelie," which he composed for the opening ceremony of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. The song features a Sami yoik, a traditional form of song that is unique to the Sami people. The song was later used in the Disney movie "Frozen" and became a worldwide hit. Fjellheim has also composed music for several films, including "The Kautokeino Rebellion" and "The Pathfinder." He has collaborated with many artists, including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a composer, Fjellheim is also a performer. He has released several albums as a solo artist and has performed in concerts and festivals around the world. He is known for his improvisational skills and his ability to blend different musical styles. Fjellheim has received many awards for his contributions to music, including the Norwegian Music Council's Award for Best Composer in 1998 and the Sami Parliament's Cultural Award in 2002. He was also awarded the Order of Merit by the King of Norway in 2012 for his contributions to Norwegian music. Fjellheim continues to compose and perform music, and his work has inspired many musicians around the world. His unique blend of Sami music, jazz, and classical music has helped to bring attention to the traditional music of the Sami people and has helped to create a new genre of music that is uniquely Nordic.
