Reginald Bain was born on December 16, 1963, in Nassau, Bahamas. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Bain showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later learned to play the trumpet and the guitar. Bain attended the University of Miami, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition and Theory in 1986. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Michigan in 1988. During his time at the University of Michigan, Bain studied with William Bolcom, Leslie Bassett, and George Wilson. After completing his studies, Bain began his career as a composer and educator. He taught at the University of South Carolina from 1988 to 1991 and at the University of Memphis from 1991 to 1994. In 1994, he joined the faculty at the University of South Florida, where he is currently a Professor of Music Composition and Theory. Bain's compositions are known for their unique blend of classical and jazz elements. He has written works for a variety of ensembles, including orchestra, chamber groups, and solo instruments. Some of his most notable works include "Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra," "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra," and "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra."
