HD Duo is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 by pianist Hui Wu and cellist Dan Barrett. The duo has gained recognition for their unique and dynamic performances, which blend classical music with contemporary styles. Hui Wu was born in China and began playing the piano at the age of six. She later studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Dan Barrett, on the other hand, was born in the United States and started playing the cello at the age of nine. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The two musicians met while studying at the University of Cincinnati and quickly discovered a shared passion for classical music. They began performing together and soon realized that their unique blend of styles and personalities created a powerful and engaging musical experience. HD Duo has performed at numerous venues and festivals throughout the United States and abroad. Some of their most notable performances include appearances at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Shanghai Oriental Art Center in China, and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. In addition to their live performances, HD Duo has also released several albums. Their debut album, "HD Duo Live," was recorded during a performance at the University of Cincinnati and features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. Their second album, "HD Duo Plays Piazzolla," showcases their interpretation of the music of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. The duo has received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2011, they were awarded the Bronze Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the United States. They were also finalists in the 2012 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition in Japan. HD Duo's performances have been praised for their technical precision, emotional depth, and innovative approach to classical music. They have been described as "a dynamic and exciting duo" by the Cincinnati Enquirer and "a revelation" by the Shanghai Daily. In addition to their work as performers, Hui Wu and Dan Barrett are also dedicated educators. They have taught masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools throughout the United States and China, and have served as faculty members at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Miami University of Ohio.
