Dieter Hennings was born on August 22, 1972, in Mexico City, Mexico. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a classical guitarist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Hennings was exposed to classical music and began playing the guitar at the age of six. Hennings received his formal music education at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, where he studied under the guidance of renowned guitarists such as Alfonso Moreno and Juan Carlos Laguna. He later continued his studies at the University of Arizona, where he earned a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance. Throughout his career, Hennings has been recognized for his exceptional talent and has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1995, he won first prize at the National Guitar Competition in Mexico City, and in 1997, he was awarded the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, which allowed him to study with renowned guitarist Oscar Ghiglia in Italy. Hennings has performed extensively throughout the world, captivating audiences with his virtuosic playing and musical sensitivity. He has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. In addition to his performing career, Hennings is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at the University of Arizona, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently a professor of guitar at the University of Kentucky, where he has been on the faculty since 2007.
