Rupert Glawitsch was born on May 12, 1985, in Vienna, Austria. He was born into a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned cellist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Rupert showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He was a prodigious talent and quickly progressed to more advanced pieces. At the age of eight, Rupert began studying the cello under the tutelage of his father. He showed a natural aptitude for the instrument and quickly became proficient. By the age of ten, he was performing in public and had already won several local competitions. Rupert's talent was recognized by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and he was invited to perform with them at the age of twelve. This was a significant moment in his career, and it marked the beginning of his journey as a professional musician. In 2003, Rupert was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. He studied under the renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and quickly established himself as one of the school's most promising students. During his time at Juilliard, Rupert won several awards, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. After graduating from Juilliard, Rupert began performing with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented cellists of his generation, and his performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. In 2010, Rupert released his debut album, which featured works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it established Rupert as a major force in the classical music world. Over the years, Rupert has continued to perform at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. He has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. In addition to his performing career, Rupert is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Conservatoire de Paris. Throughout his career, Rupert has won numerous awards and accolades. In 2015, he was awarded the International Classical Music Award for his recording of the complete Bach cello suites. He has also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, the Gramophone Award, and the Diapason d'Or. Despite his success, Rupert remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push himself to new heights and is always looking for ways to improve his playing.
