Enrico De Capitani was born on October 10, 1975, in Milan, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Enrico showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He later went on to study the violin and the cello, and by the age of 12, he had already performed in several concerts. Enrico's talent was recognized early on, and he was accepted into the prestigious Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. There, he studied under the guidance of some of the most renowned musicians in Italy, including Franco Petracchi, Enrico Dindo, and Salvatore Accardo. He graduated with honors in 1997, and soon after, he began his professional career as a cellist. Enrico's career took off quickly, and he soon became known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. He performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in Italy, including the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala, and the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. He also performed internationally, playing in some of the most renowned concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the United States. One of Enrico's most notable performances was his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 2001. He performed the cello concerto by Antonín Dvořák, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. The following year, he was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival, where he played the cello concerto by Edward Elgar. His performance was once again met with great praise, and he was hailed as one of the most promising young cellists of his generation. Enrico's career continued to flourish, and he went on to win several awards and accolades. In 2003, he won the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is awarded by the Italian Association of Music Critics to the best musician of the year. He also won the Premio Franco Abbiati in 2005, which is awarded to the best young musician of the year. In 2007, he was awarded the Premio Paganini, which is one of the most prestigious awards for classical musicians in Italy. Enrico's repertoire was vast, and he was known for his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. He was particularly interested in contemporary music, and he worked closely with several contemporary composers, including Luciano Berio and Salvatore Sciarrino. He also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of the cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach. Enrico's career was tragically cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. Despite his illness, he continued to perform, and his final concert was in Milan in 2011.
