Jannis Anissegos is a Greek-German pianist and composer who has made a name for himself in the world of contemporary classical music. Born on December 17, 1978, in Athens, Greece, Anissegos showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a composer and his mother a pianist, which greatly influenced his musical development. Anissegos received his first piano lessons from his mother and later studied at the National Conservatory of Athens. In 1997, he moved to Germany to continue his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, where he studied piano with Eliza Hansen and composition with Peter Michael Hamel. He also attended masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, András Schiff, and Maurizio Pollini. Anissegos' career as a pianist and composer began to take off in the early 2000s. In 2002, he won the first prize at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam, which brought him international recognition. He has since performed at major festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Berliner Festspiele, the Donaueschingen Festival, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, and the Venice Biennale. Anissegos is known for his innovative approach to classical music, which combines elements of jazz, rock, and electronic music. He has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including jazz saxophonist Evan Parker, electronic musician Alva Noto, and the Ensemble Modern. He has also composed music for film, theater, and dance productions. One of Anissegos' most notable performances was his 2010 concert at the Berliner Festspiele, where he performed a program of works by contemporary composers such as György Ligeti, Helmut Lachenmann, and Salvatore Sciarrino. The concert received critical acclaim, with the Berliner Zeitung describing Anissegos as "a pianist of extraordinary virtuosity and sensitivity." Anissegos has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In addition to his win at the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition, he was awarded the German Record Critics' Award in 2008 for his album "Piano Inside Out," which featured his own compositions as well as works by Ligeti and John Cage. He was also a recipient of the Villa Aurora Fellowship in Los Angeles in 2012, which allowed him to work on new compositions and collaborations with American musicians. Anissegos continues to be an active performer and composer, with several upcoming concerts and projects in the works.
