Artist Info
Aaron Larget-Caplan is a classical guitarist and composer who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative compositions. Born in Oklahoma City in 1972, Larget-Caplan began playing the guitar at the age of 16 and quickly developed a passion for classical music. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Oklahoma, Larget-Caplan went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. During his time at the conservatory, he studied with renowned guitarists Eliot Fisk and David Leisner, and also had the opportunity to work with composers such as John Cage and Steve Reich. Larget-Caplan's career as a performer began to take off in the early 2000s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the Boston GuitarFest International Competition and the Aaron Copland Award for Composition. He also began to receive critical acclaim for his recordings, which showcased his technical prowess and his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. One of Larget-Caplan's most notable performances took place in 2007, when he gave the world premiere of John Cage's "Music for Two" at the New England Conservatory. The piece, which was written for two guitars, had never been performed before, and Larget-Caplan's interpretation was widely praised for its sensitivity and nuance. In addition to his work as a performer, Larget-Caplan is also an accomplished composer. His compositions have been performed by a variety of ensembles, including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and the Boston Guitar Orchestra. He has also collaborated with other artists, such as the poet Robert Pinsky, to create multimedia works that combine music, poetry, and visual art. Throughout his career, Larget-Caplan has been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2010, he was awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and in 2012 he was named a Fulbright Scholar, which allowed him to travel to Spain to study the music of Federico García Lorca. He has also been a frequent guest on radio and television programs, where he has discussed his work as a performer and composer. Today, Larget-Caplan continues to perform and compose music that pushes the boundaries of classical guitar. He has released several albums, including "Tracing a wheel on water," which features his own compositions, and "The Legend of Hagoromo," which is a collaboration with the Japanese koto player Reiko Obata. He also teaches at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he shares his knowledge and passion for classical music with a new generation of musicians.More....
