He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Uzi showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of five. He was a prodigious talent and quickly became recognized for his exceptional musical abilities. Uzi's early musical education was under the guidance of his father, who taught him the basics of music theory and piano technique. He also received formal training at the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv, where he studied under the renowned pianist and teacher, Ilona Vincze-Kraus. Uzi's talent was evident from the start, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young pianists in Israel. In 1967, Uzi moved to the United States to further his musical education. He enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the legendary pianist and teacher, Rosina Lhévinne. Uzi's time at Juilliard was transformative, and he emerged as a mature and accomplished musician. He won several awards and competitions during his time at Juilliard, including the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 1972. After graduating from Juilliard, Uzi embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, and his performances were always met with critical acclaim. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann, and his performances of these composers' works were considered to be among the finest of his generation. He also performed at Carnegie Hall several times, including a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the New York Philharmonic in 1980.
