He was heavily influenced by the works of classical composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as modern composers like Stravinsky and Bartok. Coallier's compositions were known for their intricate harmonies and use of unconventional time signatures. One of Coallier's early works was his Piano Sonata No. 1, which he composed in 1982. The piece was well-received by critics and showcased Coallier's talent as a composer. He went on to compose several other piano sonatas, including his Piano Sonata No. 2, which was dedicated to his mother. In addition to his piano sonatas, Coallier also composed several orchestral works. One of his most notable pieces was his Symphony No. 1, which he composed in 1990. The symphony was performed by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and received critical acclaim. Coallier's use of unconventional harmonies and rhythms in the piece was praised by critics.
